According to marine biologist, Sylvia Earle,
“The best scientists and explorers have the attributes of kids. They ask questions and have a sense of wonder. They have curiosity. Who, what, where, why, when and how!”
And so we have a call to action!
What questions are you asking your customers, friends and colleagues? Are they merely for curiosity’s sake, or are you seeking to learn something?
There is a big difference. When I’m curious, I ask for my own edification, to compare myself, and to see if I stack up. This sometimes makes me miserable.
When I want to learn something I ask different questions like:
Who has influenced you the most?
What ideas do you have about this?
Where do you go for help?
Why did you select that option?
When will you know?
How do you make decisions?
These questions help me know the other person better, learn successful tools and techniques, and allow the other person to shine.
Are you like a scientist? Can you be today?
