3 points to make your points stronger

A stumbled across a quote about communication that is clever and may be a way for you to improve your communication, with, like, everyone.

It’s from Dan Oswald who has been the Chief Executive Officer of Business & Legal Resources, Inc. since 2011 and is kind of a big deal who writes The Oswald Letter, Insights on Business and Leadership.

I don’t know anything about Mr. Oswald, but I really dug his quote –

Here it is:
“Communication must be HOT – Honest and Open and Two-Way.”
Think about that for a bit –
Honest – One of the biggest challenges most of us face is this honesty issue. Are we honest?
I would imagine that most of us would think, or say that we are honest – and then, are we?
I know I’ve lied to myself, and if really honest: to others. And right now it matters not the reasons. Being honest means sometimes admitting we’ve not been completely honest, especially with ourselves.
Now the caveat – I’m NOT an advocate of BRUTAL Honesty, mostly that’s simply mean. However, when we are honest, with ourselves and others, things go better.
Open is next and in the world we live in there is a LOT of open. For this post, I’ll leave it to you to determine how open you want to be. Vulnerability can be lovely, TMI (Too Much Information) can be off-putting.
Lastly and maybe most important for communication is Two-Way – back and Forth, Give and Take – There are many ways to say this but the gist of it is this – Be IN conversation – rather than DOING conversation. When you shift that intent – the Two-Way continues.
